Is there anything worse than having your favourite hat loosen up enough to fit two of you in there? All those hours spent crocheting it with love and patience...all gone down the drain.
Elastic threads are an easy fix and an effective preventive measure. I've tried many methods out there but always ended up with a clump of elastic poking me through the yarn or too visible even when using clear nylon thread. I finally settled on the easiest way to add elastic to a hat brim and I will tell you my secret.
'Ingredients' required:
elastic thread (I used clear nylon elastic string from Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B082KTVGMK/ )
scissors
the same crochet hook you used for the hat
some extra yarn left after you finished the hat (I don't cut it when I finish the hat, just continue using it to attach the elastic)
Next, put the thread through the last loop you made and make two knots to secure its attachment.
Then make single crochet stitches but keep the thread in between the hook and the yarn in order to incorporate and hide them in your row of single crochets.
Complete as many rows as you need (I like making two rows to make sure the hat keeps its shape) and then cut both the yarn and the elastic, knot them together several times to secure them and hide the ends in the inside of the hat.
Ta da!
