Yarn was my downfall. I'd fallen hard for those bundles of joy, collecting them on every necessary (and unnecessary) trip to the craft shops. Before I knew it, skeins were bursting out of baskets, spilling across shelves - a wooly avalanche!
Something had to be done. I couldn't let my precious yarn collection get ruined. So one organized Sunday, I tackled the mess.
First, I found bags and bins to sort out the chaos. I sorted yarn by weight and colour into matching containers so I could easily spot what I needed for future projects. Delicates like my cashmere and angora went into flat boxes to avoid stretching their fibers. Zippable bags housed my leftover bits and pieces. Now I may have a few too many zip bags....
For my bulkier hanks, I brought out the big guns - yarn winder and hanging skirt rack. Winding into cakes kept tangling at bay. Hanging on the rack prevents slouching and keeps everything visible. My hand-dyed merino is so vibrant on display!
I did a little yarn dance once everything had a proper place. My stash is finally under control and protected from dust, damaging light, hungry moths, cats, husband, and general mess-making.
When the urge strikes to stock up on wool, I’m ready. My yarn is neatly arranged by colour, fiber, and weight, waiting patiently for its turn in my hooks and needles. Now where to hang those new paintings of sheep?
